FOV = field of view. On the iPhone® 4/4S the video mode uses less of the sensor than the still image mode so the field of view is less. Therefore we show the FOV for both modes because they are different.

35mm equivalent: Because many people are familiar with what FOV is associated with different focal length lenses on 35mm Still Cameras it is common to equate other cameras and lenses to what focal length lens would give the same picture on your Nikon, Canon, or other full frame 35mm camera.
